The Art Of Letting Go....

With a store like Retropolitan...

...You kind of fall in love with every piece of furniture,
every inspiring work of art,
every gorgeous lamp,
every fluffy pillow that walks in the door.

And as excited as you are to see your child the amazing vintage sofa find a new loving home, you're also locking the door and physically fighting the customer from taking it with them sad to let it go.

Sort of like when your kids go to college. (I'm assuming).

Or your puppy finds a new home. (If you're a breeder).

However, it's always fun when our customers send us pictures of our favorite pieces in their new environment!

When a lovely customer sent us these 3 photos, we had to share them!  This mahogany console has always been a special piece, and we are so happy it found a great home.

Inspiration photo that the customer had in mind...

The console in our store before she took it home...

And the console in it's new home!

We love how the ornate details on the console compliment the boldness of the drapes and valance...
Fabulous!

...sniff, sniff...kids grow up so fast:>)

Insta-Store Love

"Sunburst"

"Lovebirds"

"Salute"

"Capture Nashville"

Instagram.  Love it.  Can't get enough of it.  It's helped capture some of my favorite items we have in the store right now.

A vibrant Starburst mirror - perfect to energize a room.  Behind a sofa?  Above a mantle?  Or if you have high enough ceilings in your foyer, why not hang it above your front door?
It will look gorgeous anywhere.

Peacock Lovebirds - These loveys will bring shocks of color and drama to any room.
And peacocks are hot right now :>)

Salute! Toast friends and family using unexpected wine goblets.
How fun to pull these out at your next party?  Not only do they look good,
but wine tastes better out of them, too.

Capture Nashville - This piece is an homage to the city we all love.  It's big and bold and all Music City.
Clocking in at 7 feet tall, it's all you need to make a big statement in a room.
And it's made by a local artist (free-hand!), so win-win, right?

If you hear the siren's call, please do stop in the store.  We're here for ya ;>)

Retropolitan at the CMA's!!

I would first like to correct Entertainment Weekly on their recent CMA review:

"The crowd gave her [Taylor Swift] a standing ovation for her lovely, simple rendition of “Ours,” which I believe was set in an Anthropologie window."

Um, try Retropolitan window.

As the lights went up on Taylor's performance, I couldn't help being distracted by
an all too familiar blue lamp.
And a white straw rug.
And a sandy pedestal table.
And a silver wire spokes tables.
And a cherry blossom globe lamp.
And...

You get the picture.

"The singer also performed her new song ‘Ours,’ doing so solo and acoustically, on a stage decorated with a couch and  old-fashioned lamps, which projected the softest lighting. It was like Swift was performing from the cozy comfort of her own living room … Or yours.
While she spent the rest of the night decked out in gorgeous and glittery dresses, she donned a bright pink sweater, which she paired with black leggings, and nestled deep in her couch to deliver the song. It was a brilliant contrast to the sparkle and shimmer of the red carpet! Since country music is such a homey genre, Swift’s choice of setting and decor for her performance was a well-conceived. Nice touch, Tay!"
Yeah, Tay, nice touch!

The CMAs were such a fun night...but what made it even better was seeing Retropolitan in action on stage!

"We Got The Funk..."

Gotta have that funk!

We are getting all kinds of funky here at Retropolitan....Check out some of our newest pieces:

A super fun love seat with floral cushions and fabulous carved arm detail.  Who would you cozy up to?  My 2 year anniversary is today, so I know who I'd pick!

A set of 2 arm chairs and matching side table....The black and white palette is perfectly cool while the 70's details glam 'em up.

Fantastic red velvet armchair and stool!  Please, someone come take this home and put it in your Hollywood-esque bedroom (complete with a mirrored vanity and champagne!).  It's just begging you to drape your vintage Chanel bag over it's arm :>)

Oh, and don't forget to turn on your Vintage Grundig Record Player for ambiance....can anyone resist the sound of your favorite song on vinyl?

I can't.  Count me in!

These Windows They Are A Changin'...

After last week's enormously successful Fall Sale, it was def time to freshen up the windows.
August is a month of excitement and energy. School is starting, Sales are happening,
and people just seem to be running around in general. Like really, really fast.
So we made sure The August Windows captured that high energy and vibrancy of life.
Pops of bright colors and quirky vintage pieces made the windows super fun
and hard to look away from. I'd like to credit the recent fender benders
on 21st to our eye catching windows...but I'd better not.
Not sure if we have insurance for that.

But these times they are a changin'...and so the windows must, too!
We are now well into September and things are starting to settle in a bit.
School is back in swing, the pools are closed, the weather is beginning to chill.
Soups and hot chocolate are getting ready to take their seasonal reign at the table.
Everything that is green is on the verge of turning brown, and while that may sadden some,
we see an opportunity to be inspired by it!
So, without further ado, The September Windows!

Layers of white provide a clean, soothing environment.
(Maybe a hint at the winter to come?)
The mid-century pieces bring in sophistication from years past,
adding a little bit of the beloved Mad Men factor.
(Can't you just picture Don Draper perched in that white leather chair?)
Absolutely in love with the prohibition inspired hide-away bar.
(Does The Patterson House have on-call mixologist services? Prob not, but here's to hoping)
And that glossy white lacquered deer head (oh yes, he is the real deal)
well, he just keeps it a little weird.

It's all so very, dare I say it... Retropolitan?
